October 29, 2019 | Bethel High School at Evia Events | by Robin Hodges, College and Career Readiness Specialist & Sandra Lordahl, Career Counselor

On Oct. 29, 20 students from Bethel High School experienced a wonderful field trip to Evia Events. Evia has evolved over the years to serve the needs of a growing number of clients interested in harnessing the power of video to engage audiences. They have grown from a three-person company with one primary client to one of the top three full-service companies in the world that streams, captures and distributes video online for events. Today, Evia serves hundreds of clients including Amazon, Starbucks, Microsoft and Tableau, providing digital event solutions at events across the globe.

We were greeted by Anita at the front door and she walked us through the office. The first thing I noticed was a room filled with smiling faces and a group of pumpkins lined up on a shelf spelling out IGNITE.

We met many amazing women from a variety of backgrounds as well as countries!  These strong women spoke to empower our students to advocate for themselves and their positions.

We heard from Hilary Laney – CEO and owner, Lila Williams – Director of Business Administration, Colleen – Creative Director, Roselyn  Computer Science/Engineer, Jessica Tate  Event Project Manager, Noah Samuels – Accounting Coordinator, and Robert Burton – Director of Business Operations. They shared their stories as well as their roles at Evia.

The girls were particularly excited about the product feedback they were tasked with.  They were divided into small groups of three and asked to try out a program.  Then each group was given the opportunity to present their ideas.

My coworker and I were impressed with the students and their insight of the product. While testing it out they discovered a few issues that the Evia staff was unaware of.

Everyone was fabulous!  Anita met us with a smile and was organized and focused on making this event enjoyable for all. Our students truly enjoyed themselves from the minute we arrived until we left. As always, we were all inspired by the panel of ladies and their experiences.  Many of our students have never been to Seattle, making this opportunity even more important for many reasons.

Sandra and I would like to thank Anita, Hilary, Lila, Colleen, Roselyn, Jessica, Noah, Robert, and everyone involved in making this such an amazing event!
