Fife School District at SAP Concur

Fife School District – Teacher Report
IGNITE Trip to SAP Concur, November 6th

When we arrived at SAP Concur, we were greeted by the amazing volunteers who work there and students were broken into groups for activities.

Each volunteer was so happy to work with us and my students got a strong feeling of support and excitement about their jobs. The facility was beautiful and also encouraged this feeling. At the end of the tour students were provided lunches and sat in a U-shape around a panel of extraordinary women. This was the coup de grace in that each and everyone of my students was affected by the speakers. They chose an exceptional panel of women of different backgrounds who had impassioned speeches that had students coming back to school talking about the time they had to their friends.

We have been on three trips so far and it is always wonderful to see women excel in these types of careers. It is truly a gift being able to hear their stories and how they got to where they are now.

I am so glad that I was a part of this experience. I have told so many other teachers about IGNITE since this experience and I hope my students have this opportunity or an opportunity like this again.

100%

of girls/non-binary students are more interested in STEM

100%

of girls/non-binary students want to study harder to attend college and further their education

Here’s what the students had to say:

“For the first time in a while, I felt like I belong.
I felt like I could do something, and have it respected and looked towards in the fact that it is a good idea, and could happen with industry and improvement. The overall environment at SAP Concur is just a warm feeling, and hearing everyone’s perspectives of their work space and their stories.
I feel like my story isn’t so much as a burden now as it is a fire under my you-know-what to get moving on my dreams that I know are important to me. I went there, and I came back a new person, a more aware person.
Just like what they talked about with things in our life that are life-changing, and make us who we are, this meeting, this field-trip, this whatever you want to call it is a life changing experience. I want to work there, and I definitely want to do this again next year!”

I liked the tour of the building and the stations at the beginning of the event. It has inspired me to think more about technology as a career.”

The highlights was the VR headset I got to wear, and the most inspiring part the panel of women giving their story about how they got into the STEM field.”
