Highline HS at TUNE

01January 25, 2017

Twenty-six lucky girls were able to visit Tune in Seattle on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.  Not only was it educational, it was also fun.  Ali Wulf and her panel of six wonderful, energetic ladies shared their stories, experiences, and backgrounds.  They all spoke from the heart and had our attention the whole time.  We all appreciate the work that Ali and her Tune team put into this amazing and fun opportunity for our Highline girls.  One hundred percent of the girls said we should offer this experience again in the future; 96% said this experience helped them better understand their future career interests and plans after high school; and 92% said that this experience motivated them to do better in school.01

I want to especially thank each presenter and employee host—you made our day, Ali, Julie, Hillary, Charmaine, Sarah, Christine, and Nicole.  We enjoyed our tour, loved lunch, delighted in the free snacks from the kitchen, and learned a lot.  Thank you all for showing us around, sharing your stories, and welcoming us to Tune.  We are extremely thankful for your energy, time, effort, and willingness to share with us—I so much enjoyed watching the girls get inspired about careers in computer science and technology!  Every girl said they enjoyed the food and hearing about your experiences.  We were all inspired by the environment where you work and the support you get from each other!

The following are comments are from the evaluations filled out by the girls who attended—they always say it best!!  All of the comments are worth reading, so take some time and read all the way to the bottom!

  • I saw other peoples’ experiences and how the road to success is not easy, which made me more motivated.
  • It made me want to keep pursuing my career in computer science!
  • That I can accomplish whatever I want and the computer tech [industry] has a lot of opportunities.
  • It’s not scary to grow up and it’s not hard to be what you want to be as long as you try hard.
  • To not let money affect you or say if you can do it.
  • Getting to know the speakers personally and knowing that if they can do it, I can do it.
  • I enjoyed having a tour @ the Tune Company.  It got me inspired to really work hard & I can finish college.  And not worry about $.
  • I enjoyed how they work and that inspired me.
  • I enjoyed talking one-on-one with Julie and getting her perspective on college.

What a great event!  I’d like to say thank you again to everyone who made this all possible, for all of your continued support of IGNITE, and for wanting to be part of an extraordinary experience.  As you can see, this event has changed these girls’ lives.

Sincerely,
