Katsina Chapter International Day of the Girl

Abdulraheem, in his remark as the Alumni Leader, Katsina State Chapter of the US. Govt. Exchange program, and the coordinator IGNITE Katsina, stated as follows:

International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations; it is also called the Day of the Girl and the International Day of the Girl. October 11, 2012, was the first Day of the Girl. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as right to education / access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and un free child marriage. The celebration of the day also "reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research.

Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls’ face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

The world’s 1.1 billion girls are a source of power, energy, and creativity – and the millions of girls in emergencies are no exception. This year’s International Day ofthe Girl (IDG) on October 11 marks the beginning of a year-long effort to spur global attention and action to the challenges and opportunities girls face before, during, and after crises.

We are sons and daughters of the soil promoting hospitality that our Dear & Loving State Katsina stands to promote.

In our alumni team, we use humanitarian approach to address challenges. And the need to address and protect the challenges the girls face today is not an exemption, as we have over thetime addressed some of these issues using some of the empowering tools like Inspiring Girls Now In Technology Evolution (IGNITE).

IGNITE, an acronym for Inspiring Girls Now In Technology Evolution. It is a network of girls and women who inspire and teach each other. IGNITE, empowers young women to succeed in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) careers and inspires girls to dream big to achieve their full potential.

We believe that if all the stakeholders here today join hands in the crusade, then our daughters, sisters, aunties and mothers will have all sense of belonging and withthe full hope devoid of discrimination.

Let us care for the girls today.

Thank you and happy celebration.
