WHY YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH IGNITE?

As a student, I didn’t plan to work in technology but here I am the owner of a tech company after 35 years working here!  I became involved with IGNITE for three primary reasons: First, I want to share my story and those of my co-workers with young women – something I missed when I was in high school. Secondly, I want to stay connected with our future women managers and leaders in the technology industry. Finally, I want to provide options for younger women to work at Alliance and build a career like I did.

I was fortunate to start working with a software company in my early 20’s. I’ve worked in a wide range of roles, including marketing assistant, trainer, analyst, tester, project manager, resource manager and, finally, business owner. Today, many educational programs prepare young women for high-paying, rewarding careers in technology. At Alliance, about half of our staff and executive leadership directors are women – well above the national averages.

HOW HAS IGNITE INSPIRED YOU?

Energy creates energy!  I love seeing the spark in young women’s eyes when they think about a future career in technology. I feel I am making a difference in their lives. They remind me of the importance of keeping my job fun. Joining a panel at a school also reminds me of what I’ve accomplished.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT IGNITE WITH THE WIDER COMMUNITY?

It’s fun, get involved!  You can do as little or as much as you want. Start with a panel at a school and go from there. It’s our role to show them that they can follow their dreams through a career in a tech company.
