WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO LEAD IGNITE AT YOUR SCHOOL?

I decided to lead IGNITE because it provided an opportunity for young women, especially young women of color, to be exposed to careers in the STEM fields. For these young ladies to see women that look like them, who are shattering the glass ceiling with positions and roles that are shaping our world today, it is awesome and life changing.

WHAT IMPACT HAS IGNITE HAD ON YOUR FEMALE STUDENTS?

IGNITE has had a positive influence on my students. It has given my young ladies even more focus, determination, and hope about where they want to go to school and what their career pathways will be.

ARE THERE ANY MEMORABLE STORIES OF HOW IGNITE HAS HAD AN IMPACT?

The 2017 Women of Color in Technology Symposium we had here at Evergreen High School was one of the most special ones we have had; I was very much impressed with the level of engagement my students, who ranged from 9th-12th grade, showed. They were  fired up and motivated about seeing these women of color in positions of power, who were leaders, innovators, and world shapers.  My students could not help but be engaged and empowered when they left because of how these panelist shaped their perspective on women in the STEM field.
