WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO LEAD IGNITE IN YOUR SCHOOL?
I feel fortunate that IGNITE found me, through the work that I do. I’ve decided to continue to partner with IGNITE because our girls (particularly girls of color) need to see women in tech that look like them. There is endless research around mentoring and the power of relationships to elevate aspiration. IGNITE is in the business of elevating aspiration for all girls; and so am I.

WHAT IMPACT HAS IGNITE HAD ON YOUR FEMALE STUDENTS?
I think the biggest impact for our girls has been hearing from panelists about their reality—the triumphs and the struggles—but hearing that it’s possible. I’ve had countless students come to me after an IGNITE event and tell me about how the journeys they heard either validated their own, or inspired them to reroute. Particularly in the Pacific NW, STEM is tangible, it’s something they see and hear daily – from Boeing to Amazon, Microsoft to endless start-ups… but the images remain predominately cis male. IGNITES impact is that it challenges that narrative by presenting the alternative, in the flesh.

ARE THERE ONE OR TWO PARTICULAR STORIES YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT HOW IGNITE HAS HAD AN IMPACT ON A PARTICULAR GIRL?
I have too many stories! Here are our recaps from last years’ events…. They have a few nuggets 🙂
