SVP of Global Technology Services, lululemon
WHY YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH IGNITE?
Reason I am involved in IGNITE is two parts.
The Past-> I was raised by my mother who is extremely intelligent and is great at mathematics. She taught me everything I know and gave me a foundation to become a software engineer which led to a leadership career in tech. My mother is a candle in my life showing me the light to success, however she was never able to achieve the heights and true potential in STEM herself.
The Present and the Future-> I have an amazing 12 year old daughter she loves STEM and I am constantly learning from here about the peer pressure in schools that make STEM as an uncool thing to pursue. I truly believe that we have a great opportunity to change the minds of girls one by one and school by school.
I see IGNITE is a way to change the past, present and the future by promoting STEM for Girls and help them to prosper in various ways.
HOW HAS IGNITE INSPIRED YOU?
IGNITE has inspired us in many ways, one thing which stands out is the genuine and strong bias towards action to create a strong community of smart girls in STEM.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE OUR WIDER COMMUNITY TO KNOW ABOUT IGNITE?
My humble suggestion would be to get girls involved earlier. We need to go upstream and cultivate the mindset of STEM is good for Girls and encourage them to pursue careers in STEM.
