SUMMARY:Women of Color in STEM – Virtual Panel
DESCRIPTION:\nInspire IGNITE Students in STEM during a 60-min Mini-Panel!\n\n\n\nIGNITE aims to increase gender diversity in high-wage/high-demand STEM fields, such as technology and engineering. The school serves a diverse student population in Oakland, with high percentages of Middle Eastern, Black/African-American, and Latinx students and students who speak Arabic and Spanish as a first language. Women and gender-diverse professionals of color who work in these fields are highly encouraged to sign up as Panelists! Sojourner Truth Independent Study is a school that offers a part-online learning format.\n\n\n\nThis is an incredible opportunity to change an IGNITE student’s life! After signing up as a panelist, new Panelists are required to complete our Panelist Training and attend a live, interactive Virtual Panelist Coaching Session. Training must be completed by May 5.\n\n\n\nWe are also looking for a Facilitator and Tech Host to moderate and provide technical support, respectively. The Facilitator and Tech Host will meet with our IGNITE organizer for a 1-hour scheduled training before your first event.\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: Since only 2 panelists are participating in each mini panel, we want to ensure students are exposed to a variety of opportunities in STEM. If your job is similar to another panelist who has already signed up, we may ask you to participate in the next event instead.\n\n\n\nApproximate time commitment:\n\n\n\nNew Volunteer: 3 hours: 1.75 hours prep (training, coaching, materials review) + 1.25-hour event\n\n\n\nReturning Volunteer: 1.5 hours: 15 minutes prep + 1.25-hour event\n\n\n\n\n
