Field Trip at Weyerhaeuser (Seattle, WA – High School)

Learn how Weyerhaeuser blends old and new – forestry and technology – to stay innovative and keep our planet healthy for generations to come! Students will have a hands-on opportunity to explore how STEM plays a major role in areas like sustainable forestry, ecosystem management, and green building and will get a glimpse of how workers at Weyerhaeuser make this happen each day. The technology field is wide, and students will focus on their choice of the following activities during their visit:

• Emerging Technology – Use state-of-the-art technologies like robotics, drones, or mixed reality technology to solve a problem or improve a process.
• Data Integrations – Navigate the data that travels from a source to destination where transformations occur for proper output for the end user.
• User Experience Design – Walk through solutions to a bug in the Recreation Lease Management site.
• Design Thinking – Explore hands-on activities that demonstrate either the empathy and visualization stages or the journey mapping and ideation stages in the design thinking process.

Students will also participate in a live, interactive panel during the trip to find out how they can start their path to a green future in STEM!

For more than a century, Weyerhaeuser has been growing trees and making forest products that improve lives in fundamental ways, managing millions of acres of forests on a continuous and fully sustainable cycle. They strive to be responsible stewards of land for multiple uses, including recreation, conservation, and different forms of renewable energy. There are no Covid restrictions at present for this Field Trip. All students who attend will receive Weyerhaeuser swag!
