Join IGNITE for a unique opportunity to IGNITE Students from across Washington State as part of the North Central Washington Computer Science & Tech Fair!

The event will be held in-person at Big Bend Community College: 7662 Chanute St NE, Moses Lake, WA 98837 and will include high school students, college students, and recent graduates.

We are looking for volunteers to support three 40-min breakout sessions between 10am-1pm, each for 25+ IGNITE Students, where you will share your story on a series of IGNITE Mini-Panels. Ideally, volunteers will be able to support all 3 sessions. If you are only available for a portion of the event, please share your availability upon signup.

IGNITE aims to increase gender diversity in high-wage/high demand STEM fields, such as technology and engineering. Participating schools have a high percentage of Hispanic and Latina students. Women, nonbinary, transgender, agender, and genderqueer professionals who represent these perspectives are highly encouraged to sign up as Panelists to share their stories and answer student questions!

This is an incredible opportunity to change an IGNITE student’s life! After signing up as a panelist, volunteers are required to review our Panelist Training at least once per school year and attend a live, interactive Virtual Panelist Coaching Session if they have not attended one in the past.

Training must be completed by Monday, Oct. 14.

Approximate time commitment:

New Panelist: 5 hours – 2 hours prep (training, coaching, materials review) + 3-hour event

Returning Panelist: 3.5 hours – 30 minutes prep + 3-hour event

Lead Panelist

The Lead Panelist will moderate the Panel by asking IGNITE-supplied prompt questions to fellow Panelists, maintain awareness of the allotted time for the session, and participate in the Panel with their own responses. This is a new role for the 2024-2025 school year, so Panelists who are comfortable moderating and/or have served as IGNITE Panelists in the past are encouraged to lead! Standard IGNITE panelist training is required (Coaching Session for new Panelists, 2024-2025 Panelist Training).

Inspire IGNITE Students with your story! You are required to review our short Speaker Training and complete one panelist coaching session before the event.

Facilitator

Using a script, you will welcome IGNITE Students to the event and lead the group through the 3 panels and Q&A discussion.

Alternate Facilitator

If the Facilitator is unable to attend, using a script, you will welcome IGNITE Students to the event and lead the group through the 3 panels and Q&A discussion. If the Facilitator is present, you will take photos to record this special day.

Alternate Panelist

Inspire IGNITE students with your story! You are required to review our short Speaker Training and complete one panelist coaching session before the event. Alternates attend the event and step in if a Panelist is unable to show up. If Panelists spots are booked, Alternates take pictures during the event and share with IGNITE afterwards.
