IGNITE Panel at Burton High School

In-Person STEM Fair and Panel at Burton High School (San Francisco)

Inspire IGNITE Students in STEM during an IGNITE Event at Burton High School at 400 Mansell St, San Francisco, CA 94134!

This is an incredible opportunity to change an IGNITE student’s life! This event will include a short Panel and student-led Q&A, as well as an open STEM Fair for students to visit Presenter tables offering hands-on, experiential, or interactive examples of your work in STEM.

IGNITE aims to increase gender diversity in high-wage/high demand STEM fields, such as technology and engineering. Burton serves a diverse student population, with high percentages of Latinx and Asian students and students who speak English as a second language. Educators at Burton are eager to highlight LGBT role models as well. Volunteers who represent these perspectives are highly encouraged to sign up as:

  • Presenters to bring an interactive element of your work to share with students
  • Both Presenters and Panelists to table, share their stories, and answer student questions! Women, nonbinary, transgender, agender, and genderqueer professionals are encouraged to speak on the Panel.

After signing up as Panelists, volunteers are required to review our 10-min Panelist Training Video at least once per school year and attend a live, interactive Virtual Panelist Coaching Session if they have not attended one in the past.

The total time commitment is about 2 hours of pre-event preparation for new Panelists and 30 minutes of preparation for returning Panelists or Presenters, in addition to two hours for the event itself. Training must be completed by April 15.

Approximate time commitment:

New Panelist: 4 hours 2 hours prep (training, coaching, materials review) + 2-hour event

Returning Panelist/Presenter: 2.5 hours 30 minutes prep + 2-hour event
