Join us for a tour of SoundBio Lab, Seattle’s only biology makerspace, where our mission is to make hands-on biology accessible to everyone!
Then dive into the fascinating world of phytoremediation — the use of plants to remove pollutants from water. In this interactive workshop, you’ll build your own phytoremediation chamber and use digital imaging and R to investigate how duckweed and aquatic ferns can help remove heavy metals and toxins from contaminated water. Along the way, we’ll explore the health impacts of water contamination, discuss ongoing environmental cleanup efforts in Washington State, and examine the real-world potential of plant-based remediation technologies.
