IGNITE Worldwide Best Practice Award Winner
WHY YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH IGNITE WORLDWIDE?
Through every experience that I have had with IGNITE Worldwide, I see how much they value building genuine relationships. When you work in education, an essential component is your ability to create and maintain meaningful relationships with your students. Every person I have had the opportunity to work with through IGNITE has been genuinely invested in our students and recognizes the fantastic opportunity it is to connect with the next generation.
HOW HAS IGNITE WORLDWIDE INSPIRED YOU?
It is easy nowadays to get caught up in a cynical worldview that can seem insurmountable. But working with IGNITE, I have had a chance to meet and engage with many powerful and positive people who are giving their time to connect with our scholars authentically. It is inspiring to watch my students light up and connect with other adults that they can see themselves in.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE OUR WIDER COMMUNITY TO KNOW ABOUT IGNITE WORLDWIDE?
I think that it is vital that people know that while IGNITE is a STEM-oriented organization, there is more to their work than just that field. Students can make connections with people in these organizations that are doing impactful work in the areas of equity. My scholars that do not necessarily love their science and math classes are still able to see themselves in these companies because they are passionate about racial and gender equity.
