On July 29th, 2025, Lululemon’s Cybersecurity Team welcomed students from the World Affairs Council TechGirls Program for an immersive and inspiring IGNITE Field Trip. The day began with a guided tour of Lululemon’s office space, where students learned about the company’s culture and got a glimpse of day-to-day life in a modern tech workplace. The tour was a highlight for many, offering a unique look into how Lululemon fosters a collaborative and supportive environment.
Students then broke into small groups to explore different cybersecurity domains: Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), Security Operations (SecOps), Identity and Access Management (IAM), and Security Engineering. Each group was led by cybersecurity professionals who guided the students through their specialized, hands-on activities, giving an opportunity for many students to open up and actively engage in thoughtful discussions. The activity was concluded by regrouping all the students to present what they had learned before participating in a Panel with an engaging Q&A facilitated by Sonja Torseth.
Panelists Sonja Torseth, Alissa Allard, and Linda Johnston shared personal career stories, addressing thoughtful questions from students such as, “How do you navigate being the only woman in tech spaces?”, “How do you manage the stress of cybersecurity?”, “We’ve noticed how you maintain a company culture of positivity and fun – how do you focus on collaboration and maintaining this company culture?”, “How do you manage working on a team when not everyone is pulling their weight?”, and “What kind of things do you do outside of work to maintain work-life balance?”. The Panel emphasized that there are many paths into cybersecurity and that diverse backgrounds are valuable in the field.
Overall, the event provided students with a deeper understanding of cybersecurity and what it looks like in a professional environment. They valued the opportunity to ask honest questions, receive real advice, participate in interactive cybersecurity-related activities, and see firsthand how positive workplace culture and collaboration are fostered.
