From Questions to Confidence: IGNITE’s Career Launch Program
Most of us can remember a moment when the future felt wide open—and a little intimidating. Maybe it was the first time you considered a career in engineering, or the day you realized you didn’t see many people like you in the field you loved. For many young women and gender-diverse individuals, that moment arrives with equal parts excitement and uncertainty.
IGNITE’s Career Launch Program was built for that exact moment.
Career Launch is a 12-week mentorship journey that pairs emerging professionals with women working across science, technology, engineering, and math. It’s not a class, and it’s not a networking event—it’s a professional starting line. Over six one-hour conversations, mentors and mentees talk about real life: choosing a major, applying for internships, surviving imposter syndrome, negotiating a first salary, or simply figuring out what kind of job exists beyond a job title.
For many mentees, the first meeting is a little nerve-wracking. Then something shifts. They hear a mentor describe the winding path that led to cybersecurity or environmental engineering. They learn that the confident woman in front of them once failed a calculus test or changed careers at 30. The distance between “STEM professional” and “me” starts to shrink.
One participant shared, “IGNITE has continued to be a source of inspiration and opportunity. I have stayed connected through initiatives like the Career Launch Program, which pairs students with industry professionals and helps bridge the gap between education and career. These experiences have helped me grow as both a student and a future professional in technology.”
Mentors feel the impact too. Many sign up hoping to give back and end up rediscovering why they fell in love with STEM in the first place. They become sounding boards, cheerleaders, and sometimes the first person to say, “Yes, you absolutely belong here!”
What makes Career Launch special is its simplicity. Meetings can happen over video or in person. Conversations can be structured or free-flowing. The program doesn’t tell mentees who to become; it helps them imagine what’s possible and hands them a guide for the next step.
And those next steps matter. Mentees leave with clearer goals, stronger resumes, and—most importantly—a sense that they’re not walking into the STEM industries alone. They’re stepping in with a community behind them.
Every cohort adds more stories to the IGNITE network: a student who lands her first internship, a career-changer who finally applies for the role she thought was out of reach, a mentor who realizes she’s helping shape the colleague she wishes she’d had years ago.
That’s the heart of Career Launch—not just opening doors, but making sure someone is there to walk through them with you.
Join the next Career Launch cohort. Whether you’re looking for guidance as a mentee or eager to encourage the next generation as a mentor, this is your chance to be part of a community that turns questions into confidence—and potential into possibility.
