On March 24, 2026, 28 students from Cavelero Mid High School participated in an engaging and interactive IGNITE Field Trip to the AWS Skills Center, where they explored careers in cloud computing and technology through hands-on learning and direct conversations with industry professionals.
The day began with an introduction to cloud technology, followed by a computer-building relay race led by AWS Technical Trainer, Jerrell Tate. Students then explored the Cloud Discovery Space through a scavenger hunt guided by fellow AWS Technical Trainer, Deb Williams, allowing them to interact with exhibits and better understand how cloud technology is used in real-world applications. The combination of movement, teamwork, and problem-solving kept students highly engaged throughout the experience.
A highlight of the visit was the panel discussion featuring Bianca Richman, Anaya Gode, and Jennifer Hu, facilitated by Meghan Sullivan. Students asked thoughtful and practical questions about starting salaries, transitioning into tech careers, current projects, and what it’s like to be the only woman in the room. They were also curious about broader career paths and how women are treated in the industry.
Panelists shared meaningful advice, encouraging students to be confident in themselves, prepare thoroughly, and pursue what they enjoy, even if that path changes over time.

They emphasized the importance of mentorship, building supportive networks, and recognizing the unique value each individual brings to the table. Students were also encouraged to be bold, back up their ideas with research and data, and not shy away from trying something new.
Educators noted that hearing from the panelists was especially impactful, giving students a clearer picture of what a future in tech could look like. The event was praised for its smooth execution, high level of student engagement, and the supportive involvement of teachers and chaperones.
