Inspire IGNITE Students in STEM during an IGNITE Panel at Sacajawea Middle School at 1101 S Dash Point Rd, Federal Way, WA 98003!

IGNITE aims to increase gender diversity in high-wage/high demand STEM fields, such as technology and engineering. Sacajawea Middle School serves a diverse student population, with high percentages of Latinx, Black and Asian students, and students who speak Spanish, Pashto, and Dari. Women, nonbinary, transgender, agender, and genderqueer professionals who represent these perspectives are highly encouraged to sign up as Panelists to share their stories and answer student questions!

This is an incredible opportunity to change an IGNITE student’s life! After signing up as a panelist, volunteers are required to complete our Panelist Training at least once per school year and attend a live, interactive Virtual Panelist Coaching Session if they have not attended one in the past.

The total time commitment is about 2 hours of pre-event preparation for new Panelists and 30 minutes of preparation for returning Panelists, in addition to two hours for the event itself. Training must be completed by May 31.

Approximate time commitment:

New Panelist: 4 hours – 2 hours prep (training, coaching, materials review) + 2-hour event

Returning Panelist: 2.5 hours – 30 minutes prep + 2-hour event

Lead Panelist

The Lead Panelist will moderate the Panel by asking IGNITE-supplied prompt questions to fellow Panelists, maintain awareness of the allotted time for the session, and participate in the Panel with their own responses. Panelists who are comfortable moderating and/or have served as IGNITE Panelists in the past are encouraged to lead! Standard IGNITE panelist training is required (Coaching Session for new Panelists, and our short Speaker Training).
